How Much Does a Lie Cost? (the energy of a Lie)

Many, many months ago, I wrote a post about how it should be possible to "detect" an Egregore. Since I haven't used that term for a  while, and have been focused on the more pedestrian news-of-the-day bullshit for quite a while, let me recap what an egregore is.

An egregore is a thought form. It is an entity with an independent existence from human beings, but requires their minds to be. A closely related entity is demonstrated by the koan: "What is the sound of one hand clapping?" That koan has a sort of life in the mind of its hearer. Through contemplation, it pops into actual existence. It's a ghostly, otherworldly type of existence, nevertheless it is.

A lie, specifically, a propaganda enforced lie is another species of these creatures. To maintain a lie requires the expenditure of some amount of energy. The bigger, and broader the lie, the more energy is required to sustain and build it.

In comparison, the truth, the natural way is already sort of known and encoded in people's brains. To train and put them into a state of untruth requires work. Real physics work. It's encoding some new narrative, some new thing in their brains.
