The lockdowns in China make zero sense. Covid is no big deal and most of the rest of the world seems to understand that, so people try to come up with theories to explain it. Here's a brief selection:
- It's not about covid at all, it's about control over the Chinese people, and it's aimed primarily at Shanghai to stifle internal dissent.
- This one seems plausible
- It's not about covid; it's about covertly disrupting western supply chains.
- This makes no sense; lots of other ways to do that without hurting Chinese people.
- It is nominally about covid, but is insane because Chinese are obsessed with "face saving" and can't correct stupid policies.
- Seems plausible
- It's part of a broader agenda, e.g. The Great Reset and eventually "they" want to stamp out all freedom.
- Seems plausible
I don't think there's any way to know for sure.
One really interesting factor to keep in mind:
80% of Chinese debt is DOLLAR DENOMINATED. (link)
I did not know that until today. We're probably in the end game of the current world financial system and China is doing everything it can to reduce consumption for some reason I don't understand.
